Sensational Sensibaugh: CHS volleyball setter nets scholarship to Waldorf College

Many high school athletes don't get the opportunity to continue their athletic endeavors upon graduation.

That's not the case for Carlsbad High's Erin Sensibaugh.

Sensibaugh, who served as the setter on this year's Cavegirl volleyball team, will soon be on her way to compete at the next level at Waldorf College, located in Forest City, Iowa. Waldorf is a four-year liberal arts college and an NAIA program that participates in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference.

The high school senior, who holds a 3.7 grade point average at CHS, will attend Waldorf this fall on a full-ride academic and athletic scholarship, where she plans on majoring in elementary education.

"I'm really happy to have gotten the opportunity to continue my education at Waldorf," Sensibaugh said. "My parents took me to visit the college for Scholarship Day in January and I was really impressed with the school, the strong academic and athletic programs available to the students there and the surrounding area."

Sensibaugh said Scholarship Day was set up to let potential students get a better look at Waldorf College but she had already decided that this was the place she wanted to go, where she could meet all of the goals she had set for herself as a Cavegirl volleyball player and student at Carlsbad High. "I really surprised Waldorf volleyball coach Paul Meyer when I told him I was ready to sign while I was there. He thought I was just coming up to check

out the school and meet members of the volleyball team," Sensibaugh said. "But we got it done and I'm all set. Now I can just focus on the rest of my school year, and graduation, here at Carlsbad High."

So what will Waldorf College, a school in northern Iowa, be getting from a young girl who's grown up playing volleyball in the deserts of southeastern New Mexico?

"They'll be getting a young lady who is very loyal and works hard to succeed both on and off the court," said

Cavegirl volleyball coach Bonnie McKenzie. "She's always been a player who's eager to learn, very focused on what she's trying to accomplish and has always wanted to play collegiate volleyball. I'm very excited, for Erin, that she's going to get the opportunity to realize her dream."

"I've had a lot of great teachers and coaches here in Carlsbad that's helped me earn this opportunity to go to college, on a scholarship, and to compete collegiately," she said.

Sensibaugh will report to Waldorf in August.
