UAH shooting victims? families narrow focus of university records request

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- Attorneys for the families of two UAH shooting victims filed
a new subpoena for records concerning security records at the university.

The families of Dr. Marie Ragland Davis and Dr. Adriel
Johnson filed a civil lawsuit against Amy Bishop Anderson, her husband James
Anderson, and the UAH Provost Dr. Vistasp Karbhari.

The family initially requested electronic and phone
information from October 2009 until February 11, 2010. UAH officials told
attorneys that would cost anywhere from $1-million to $6-million dollars.
Attorneys for the plaintiffs told a judge they felt UAH was trying to price the
family out of litigation. The judge gave attorneys 30 days to come back with
what they think is a reasonable price.

The plaintiffs have since amended the subpoena to include
the following:

  • Requests for security or police originating from
Shelbie King Hall between November 1, 2009 and December 31, 2009
  • Requests for security or police services from
the offices of Dr. Vistasp Karbhari, then-President David Williams, and their
respective staff from November 1, 2009 and December 31, 2009.
  • Records of security detail at Shelbie King Hall
    between November 1, 2009 and December 31, 2009
  • Incoming and outgoing call records from November
1, 2009 and December 31, 2009 for phone numbers used by Dr. Karbhari, David
Williams members of their respective staff, and Dr. Debra Moriarity.
  • E-mail and other electronic communications
concerning Amy Bishop Anderson from November 1, 2009 to December 31, 2009 for
accounts belonging to Dr. Karbhari, David Williams, their respective staff, and
    Dr. Moriarity.
  • All records indicating any call from the Office
of the Provost or the Office of the President in Shelbie King Hall to any
University Police number from November 1, 2009 through December 31, 2009.

UAH officials have 15 days to send
the documents or allow the families' attorneys to inspect the documents. Court
records show the subpoena was served February 13, 2013.
